Apesar do frio, uma oportunidade de ver as cintilantes luzes do norte seduziu este observador celeste, que foi à gélida superficie do Lago Superior, na costa oeste da Peninsula Keweenaw, onde pôde observar este crescendo noturno em recompensa.
O ceu noturno de fim de inverno também aparece nesta composição panoramica de imagens obtida entre 22h e 1h na noite de 28 de fevereiro/1º de março. À esquerda, uma esmaecida faixa de luz Zodiacal eleva-se nitidamente do horizonte, cruzando Marte e o aglomerado estelar das Pleiades.
Tanto a distante galaxia M31 quando a Via Lactea brilham sobre o esverdeado arco auroral. A estrela navegacional Polaris, no polo norte, está centralizada acima e acompanhada à direita pelo mais facilmente reconhecivel asterismo das noites do norte, a Grande Concha.
Dentre as luzes terrestres se incluem marcadores para dois quebra ondas no horizonte, proximos ao centro da cena.

Despite the cold, a chance to view the shimmering northern lights coaxed this skygazer onto the frozen surface of Lake Superior on the west coast of the Keweenaw Peninsula and offered this nocturnal crescendo as a reward.
A northern late winter night sky also plays across the panoramic composition of images made between 10pm and 1am on the night of February 28/March 1. At left, a faint band of Zodiacal light rises sharply from the horizon crossing Mars and the Pleiades star cluster.
Both the distant galaxy M31 and our own Milky Way shine above the greenish auroral arc. Navigational north pole star Polaris is centered above and accompanied on the right by the northern night's most recognizable asterism, the Big Dipper. Terrestrial lights include markers for two breakwaters on the horizon near the center of the scene.
