Uma equipe de biólogos chefiada por Johannes Fritz conduziram um bando de Ibis Carecas (Bald Ibis) num ultraleve em sua migração sazonal sobre os Alpes. A espécie altamente ameaçada esteve extinta na região montanhosa durante 400 anos e está sendo reintroduzida - sendo guiada de volta para lá por pais criadores humanos  voando em ultraleves.

Os Ibis Carecas do Norte foram varridos dos Alpes no século 17. Agora, cientistas e pilotos de paraglider motorizados baseados em Gruna, Áustria, estão ensinando filhotes criados à mão a segui-los numa jornada de 400 milhas entre Berghausen, na região Bávara do norte da Áustria, até Toscana, na Itália. O objetivo é ensinar o pássaros seu antigo instinto de migraçãopara que possam migrar independentemente para a Itália no outono e de volta aps Alpes na Primavera.

A team of biologists headed by Johannes Fritz lead a flock of Bald Ibis in an ultralight plane on their seasonal migration tour over the Alps. The highly endangered species of bird has been extinct in the mountainous region for 400 years and is being reintroduced - by being guided back there by human foster parents flying microlights.

 The Northern Bald Ibis were wiped out in the Alps in the 17th century. Now scientists and para motor pilots based in Gruna, Austria, are teaching hand-reared chicks to follow them on a 400 mile journey between Berghausen, in the Bavarian region of northern Austria, to Tuscany, Italy.


The aim is to teach the birds their old migration instinct that will see them migrate independently to Italy in Autumn and back to the Alps in Spring.
