Estrelas estão lutando contra gas e poeira na nebulosa da Lagoa, mas os fotografos estão ganhando. Tambem chamada M8, esta fotogenica nebulosa é visivel mesmo sem a ajuda de binoculos na direção da constelação do Arqueiro (Sagitario).
Os processos energeticos de formação estelar criam não só as cores, mas também o caos. O gas incandescente resulta da luz estelar de alta energia que atinge o gas hidrogenio interestelar e quantidades-traço de gases de enxofre e oxigenio.
Os filamentos de poeira escura que ornam M8 foram criados nas atmosferas de gigantescas estrelas frias e nos detritos de explosões de supernovas. A luz vinda de M8 que vemos hoje partiu dela há 5.000 anos. A luz leva 50 anos para cruzar este trecho de M8.

Stars are battling gas and dust in the Lagoon Nebula but the photographers are winning. Also known as M8, this photogenic nebula is visible even without binoculars towards the constellation of the Archer (Sagittarius).
The energetic processes of star formation create not only the colors but the chaos. The glowing gas results from high-energy starlight striking interstellar hydrogen gas and trace amounts of sulfur, and oxygen gases.
The dark dust filaments that lace M8 were created in the atmospheres of cool giant stars and in the debris from supernovae explosions. The light from M8 we see today left about 5,000 years ago. Light takes about 50 years to cross this section of M8.
