A primeira Lua cheia da primavera no hemisferio norte nasce atras de quatro distantes torres nesta vista telescopica. Em uma imagem registrada a cerca de 40 quilometros a oeste da cidade de Madri, este nascer-da-lua tambem representa quase uma coincidencia da fase total de Lua cheia com o perigeu lunar e o equinocio de março.
Proxima ao horizonte, a forma estranhamente ondulada e distorcida da Lua, no entanto, cheia tem mais a ver com a longa linha de visão atraves de uma atmosfera em camadas.
Dentre os cativantes efeitos visiveis da substancial refração atmosferica está a aparição de uma fina lasca flutuando logo acima do disco lunar. A notavel miragem optica está relacionada ao mais comumente observado clarão verde do Sol poente.

The first Full Moon of northern spring rises behind four distant towers in this telescopic view. In an image captured from some 40 kilometers west of the city of Madrid, this moonrise also represents a near coincidence of the full lunar phase with lunar perigee and the March equinox.
Close to the horizon, the Full Moon's strangely rippled and distorted shape has more to do with the long sight-line through a layered atmosphere, though.
Tantalizing visible effects of the substantial atmospheric refraction include the appearance of a thin floating sliver just above the lunar disk. The remarkable optical mirage is related to the more commonly witnessed green flash of the setting Sun.
