Anote Tong, presidente de Kiribati, diz:

"Durante anos, nós sentimos a crescente severidade da inundação de nossas costas, causada por marés altas demais." Em algumas partes do país aldeias inteiras tiveram de ser realocadas por causa de uma erosão severa".

"Plantações inundadas foram destruídas e água fresca contaminada pela água do mar que invadia".

Anote Tong, president of Kiribati, says: "Over the years we have experienced the increasing severity of the inundation of our shorelines caused by extra high tides.

" In some parts of the country whole villages have had to be relocated due to severe erosion. Food crops have been destroyed and freshwater contaminated by the intruding sea water"
