The Bull's Eye and the Young Moon | O Olho do Touro e a jovem Lua

Aldebaran, olho de Taurus, o Touro, e uma jovem Lua crescente compartilhavam o céu de uma noite que se iniciava, na sexta-feira passada. O adorável par celestial podia ser apreciado em todo o planeta Terra, mas, em algumas localidades, a Lua era até vista passado em frente de Aldebaran, numa emocionante ocultação lunar  da familiar estrela brilhante. 

Tirada ao cair da noite de 28 de abril, esta foto de paisagem celeste registra Aldebaran logo após ela ter emergido de trás da brilhante borda lunar. Em primeiro plano estão os escarpados picos da montanhas Dolomitas, nas proximidades de Laggio di Cadore, Itália. Antes de reaparecer além do crescente iluminado pelo Sol, Aldebaran primeiro desapareceu atrás do brilho acinzentado da Lua, o lado lunar noturno fracamente iluminado pelo brilho da Terra.

Aldebaran, eye of Taurus the Bull, and a young crescent Moon shared an early evening sky last Friday. The lovely celestial pairing could be enjoyed around planet Earth, but from some locations the Moon was even seen to pass in front of Aldebaran, a dramatic lunar occultation of the familiar bright star. 

Taken at nightfall on April 28, this skyscape captures Aldebaran shortly after it emerged from behind the bright lunar limb. In the foreground are craggy peaks of the Dolomite mountains near Laggio di Cadore, Italy. Before reappearing beyond the sunlit crescent, Aldebaran first winked out behind the Moon's ashen glow, the lunar nightside faintly illuminated by earthshine.
