Taturana lunar

Várias exposições consecutivas foram combinadas nesta interessante imagem composta da Lua Cheia passando lentamente pelo céu. 

Começando no alto à direita, às 19h42 UT, e terminando às 22h14 UT de 25 de abril, a sequência segue a Lua em observação feita na Alemanha, enquanto  ela  passava através da sombra da Terra em uma eclipse lunar pacial. 

Próximo ao alto, a Lua roça a borda sul da escura sombra central da Terra, ou umbra. Mas o brilho reduzido na parte mais escura da região de sombra externa, a penumbra,também aparece no disco lunar. 

Na verdade, o tamanho e forma relativos das regiões de sombra da Terra e a Lua são mais facilmente visíveis ao longo dos segmentos desta espécie de "taturana" lunar. 

Entretanto, uma eclipse lunar de penumbra, praticamente impossível de seguir com o olhar, ocorrerá quando a Lua Cheia passar somente através da pálida sombra de penumbra externa, iniciando-se dia 25 de maio.

A close series of consecutive exposures are combined in this intriguing composite of the Full Moon slowly crawling, across the sky. 

Beginning on the upper right at 19:42 UT and ending at 22:14 UT on April 25, the sequence follows the Moon from Germany as it passes through Earth's shadow in a partial lunar eclipse. 

Near the top, the Moon just grazes the southern edge of Earth's dark central shadow, or umbra. But the decreased brightness in the darker part of the outer shadow region, the penumbra, is also apparent on the lunar disk. 

In fact, the relative size and shape of the Earth's shadow regions and the Moon are easier to see along the segments of this lunar caterpillar. 

Nearly impossible to follow with the eye though, a penumbral lunar eclipse, the Full Moon passing only through the pale outer penumbral shadow, will begin on May 25.
