Pilar de Sol | Sun Pillar

Você já viu um pilar de Sol? Quando o ar está frio e o Sol está nascendo ou se pondo, cristais de gelo em queda podem refletir a luz solar, criando uma incomum coluna de luz. O gelo, ao cair de nuvens em níveis muito altos, às vezes forma  cristais achatados de seis lados. 

A resistência do ar faz  esses cristais permanecerem em posição quase plana durante a maior parte do tempo em que caem em direção ao solo. A luz solar se reflete nos cristais  alinhados, criando o efeito de pilar solar. Nesta foto, um pilar de Sol reflete a luz do Sol poente sobre Östersund, na Suécia.

Have you ever seen a sun pillar? When the air is cold and the Sun is rising or setting, falling ice crystals can reflect sunlight and create an unusual column of light. Ice sometimes forms flat, six-sided shaped crystals as it falls from high-level clouds.

Air resistance causes these crystals to lie nearly flat much of the time as they flutter to the ground. Sunlight reflects off crystals that are properly aligned, creating the sun-pillar effect.
