The Italian supercar's latest concept offering, an SUV called the Urus was among some of the star vehicles to be unveiled at the motor show in Beijing.

A Lamborghini, ávida por lucrar com o gosto chinês por grandes carros, apresentou o Urus, um carro-conceito SUV de luxo (Veículo Utilitário Esportivo).

A Ford irá quadruplicar sua oferta de SUVs no próximo ano, acrescentando ao seu parco portfólio na China o Kuga, uma versão Chinesa do Escape, e EcoSport, alem do Explorer, maior.

O chefe da Ford na Ásia, Joe Hinrichs, revelando os quatro veículos novinhos em folha, esta confiante em seu sucesso.

"We've done some research on it, a lot of people are buying an SUV for their second vehicle, when they buy a second vehicle, to have versatility, and have that flexibility with the vehicle.

 

"As pessoas também gostam da posição do assento mais alta, gostam de olhar por cima o que está acontecendo adiante delas, há muito tráfego, muitos congestionamentos, então elas podem ver o que está lá na frente", disse.

Os consumidores chineses compraram 2,1 milhões de SUVs (sem contar outros tipos de carro) no ano passado, um aumento de 25%, e representando quase 12% do total das vendas de veículos leves, segundo a J.D. Power e a LMC Automotive.

The annual Beijing International Automobile Show kicked off on Monday, with a record 1,125 vehicles vying for the attention of the world's biggest car market.

Lamborghini, keen to cash in on the Chinese taste for bigger cars, unveiled the Urus, a luxury SUV (sport utility vehicle) concept car.

Ford will quadruple its offerings in the SUV range over the next year, adding to its sparse China portfolio the Kuga, a Chinese version of the Escape, and EcoSport, as well as the larger Explorer.

Ford Asia chief Joe Hinrichs, unveiling the four brand new vehicles, was confident of their success.

"We've done some research on it, a lot of people are buying an SUV for their second vehicle, when they buy a second vehicle, to have versatility, and have that flexibility with the vehicle.

 

"Also people like the higher seating point, they like to see over what's going on in front of them, there's a lot of traffic, a lot of congestion, so they can see what's going on ahead of them," he said.

Chinese consumers bought 2.1 million SUVs last year, an increase of 25 per cent and representing almost 12 per cent of total light vehicle sales, according to J.D. Power and LMC Automotive.
