Localizada cerca de 550 ano-luz distante da Terra, Antares aparece à esquerda, circundada por uma nebulosa de gás amarelada autoexpelida.
A radiação da estrela companheira azula de Antares ajuda a fazer o gás nebular brilhar. Bem atrás de Antares na imagem acima está a nuvem de algomerado globular estelar M4, e a estrela brilhante á direita é Al Niyat.
