Hungary disaster from space / Tragédia Húngara do espaço

O equipamento Advanced Land Imager  a bordo do satélite de observação da NASA Earth Observing-1  captaou esta imagem em cores naturais da área em torno de da fábrica de alumina Ajkai Timfldgyar, no oeste da Hungria, onde uma mureta lateral de uma lago de depósito de detritos se rompeu, liberando uma torrente de lama tóxica. Várias cidades próximas fora inundadas, inclusive Kolontar e Devecser, onde a lama chegou a 3 metros de profundidade em alguns pontos.


The Advanced Land Imager on NASA's Earth Observing-1 satellite captured this natural-colour image of the area around the Ajkai Timfldgyar alumina plant in western Hungary, where a corner wall of a waste-retaining pond broke, releasing a torrent of toxic red sludge down a local stream. Several nearby towns were inundated, including Kolontar and Devecser, where the sludge was up to 6.5 feet deep in places.
