Além de ter faltado fairplay ao mau humorado presidente, foi burrice tentar barrar a venda do boneco, pois aí mesmo é que despertou a curiosidade geral, tornando-se um bestseller.

O magistrado sentenciou: O manual de Vudu, que inclui um boneco, um jogo de alfinetes e um livreto explicando como jogar o Mal no presidente, está dentro dos limites da "livre expressão" e do "direito ao humor".

O advogado de Sarkozy argumentou que, como qualquer pessoa, o presidente tinha o direito à própria imagem, que foi violado com o boneco.

Sarkozy, um rematado litigante, foi ridicularizado pela iniciativa, a sexta demanda judicial desde que tornou-se presidente, e o boneco tornou-se instantaneamente um ítem obrigatório, um objeto de desejo.

A socialista Ségolène Royal, que disputou a presidência com Sarkozy, também foi alvo de um Vudu parecido, mas levou numa boa, e celebrou a decisão como uma vitória da liberdade de fazer caricatura do homem "mais poderoso do mundo".

It is not known whether Sarkozy will appeal.
