Southern Jupiter from Perijove 3 | O sul de Júpiter do Perijove 3

O sul de Júpiter paira a cerca de 37.000 quilômetros de distância, nesta imagem da JunoCam de 11 de dezembro. Os dados que compõem a imagem foram registrados quase no terceiro perijove da Juno, sua máxima aproximação de Júpiter, com a espaçonave ainda em sua órbita de loop de 53 dias de duração. 

Com a região polar sul à esquerda, o grande oval esbranquiçado em direção à direita é um grande sistema de tempestades giratórias em sentido anti-horário. Menor que a mais famosa Grande Mancha Vermelha, a tempestade oval tem apenas metade do diâmetro do planeta Terra, uma de uma série de ovais atualmente no hemisfério sul do gigante gasoso do Sistema Solar.

Southern Jupiter looms some 37,000 kilometers away in this JunoCam image from December 11. The image data was captured near Juno's third perijove or closest approach to Jupiter, the spacecraft still in its 53 day long looping orbit. 

With the south polar region on the left, the large whitish oval toward the right is massive, counterclockwise rotating storm system. Smaller than the more famous Great Red Spot, the oval storm is only about half the diameter of planet Earth, one of a string of white ovals currently in the southern hemisphere of the Solar System's, ruling gas giant.
