Pôr-do-sol na Golden Gate: um clarão verde | Golden Gate Sunset: Green Flash

O cenário é a Baía de San Francisco, Califórnia; o momento é o pôr-do-sol, e a ponte é a Golden Gate. O que você está prestes a ver é um inesperado final de pôr-do-sol com um raro clarão verde. 

Veja com atenção — na sequência de lapso temporal gravada, o ar incomumente quente criado pelo tráfego na ponte causa a refração da luz solar em direção à Terra, levando à formação da imagem superior no topo do Sol. Esta imagem irá desaparecer — marcando o primeiro "pôr-do-sol" — somente após a imagem principal mergulhar atrás do deck. 

Durante todo o tempo barcos passam em primeiro plano, carros trafegam sobre a ponte, e nuvens, refletindo a luz solar, vagueiam ao longe. A cena termina com a própria atmosfera turbulenta da Terra criando um caminho que somente a luz solar visível de mais alta energia pode atravessar, fazendo com que o último  brilho de nossa estrela-mãe pareça ter a cor verde.

The setting is San Francisco Bay, the time is sunset, and the bridge is the Golden Gate. What you are about to see is an unexpected double sunset ending with a rare green flash. 

Watch closely -- in the recorded time-lapse sequence, unusually warm air created by bridge traffic refracts sunlight toward the Earth, causing a superior image of the top of the Sun to form. This image will disappear -- marking the first "sunset" — only after the main image has dipped below the deck. 

All the while, boats pass in the foreground, cars pass over the bridge, and clouds reflecting sunlight drift by in the distance. The scene ends with Earth's turbulent atmosphere itself creating a path that only higher-energy visible sunlight can traverse, making the last glimpse of our home star appear to flash green.
