As várias estrelas distintas que circundam a imagem de Andrômeda são, na verdade, estrelas de nossa galáxia que estão bem em frente ao objeto do plano de fundo. Andrômeda é frequentemente referida como M31, já que é o 31º objeto da lista de objetos celestes difusos de Messier.
M31 está tão distante que a luz emitida por ela leva cerca de dois milhões de anos para chegar até nós. What is the nearest major galaxy to our own Milky Way Galaxy? Andromeda. In fact, our Galaxy is thought to look much like Andromeda. Together these two galaxies dominate the Local Group of galaxies. The diffuse light from Andromeda is caused by the hundreds of billions of stars that compose it.
The several distinct stars that surround Andromeda's image are actually stars in our Galaxy that are well in front of the background object. Andromeda is frequently referred to as M31 since it is the 31st object on Messier's list of diffuse sky objects.
M31 is so distant it takes about two million years for light to reach us from there. Although visible without aid, the above image of M31 is a digital mosaic of 20 frames taken with a small telescope. Much about M31 remains unknown, including exactly how long it will before it collides with our home galaxy.
Much has been said about exoplanets, extraterrestrial life, but we are so very far even from the neighbour Andromeda, that we will never, ever manage to get in touch with any kind of intelligent life from other planets, which certainly exist, as Andromeda alone contains hundreds of billions of stars, which are suns, and each one of them like has planets orbiting them. In a certain way, we can very well say we are alone in the middle of the crowd...
