Enquanto você (com segurança!) observava o andamento da eclipse parcial semanas atrás, provavelmente identificou um gigantesco grupo de manchas solares. Registrado nesta nítida imagem telescópica de 22 de outubro, o complexo AR 2192 é muito bonito de se ver, uma ampla região solar ativa de tamanho comparável ao diâmetro de Júpiter.
Assim como outros grupos menores de manchas solares, AR 2192 está agora cruzando o lado do Sol voltado para a Terra, e parece escuro sob luz visível por ser mais frio do que a superfície ao seu redor.
Ainda assim, a energia armazenada nos campos magnéticos encurvados da região é enorme, e já gerou potentes explosões, inclusive duas labaredas solares classe X nesta semana.
Até agora. as ejeções de massa coronal (CMEs) associadas às labaredas não afetaram o planeta Terra. A previsão de novas atividades em AR 2192, no entanto, é ainda significativa, já que ela oscila entre o centro do disco solar, e as CMEs direcionadas à Terra tornam-se possíveis.

As you (safely!) watched the progress of some weeks' ago partial solar eclipse, you probably also spotted a giant sunspot group. Captured in this sharp telescopic image from October 22nd the complex AR 2192 is beautiful to see, a sprawling solar active region comparable in size to the diameter of Jupiter.
Like other smaller sunspot groups, AR 2192 is now crossing the Earth-facing side of the Sun and appears dark in visible light because it is cooler than the surrounding surface.
Still, the energy stored in the region's twisted magnetic fields is enormous and has already generated powerful explosions, including two X-class solar flares this week.
Coronal mass ejections (CMEs) associated with the flares have not affected planet Earth, so far. The forecast for further activity from AR 2192 is still significant though, as it swings across the center of the solar disk and Earth-directed CMEs become possible.
