Quase o Paraíso / Almost Paradise

Quanto mais tempo você observar esta imagem, mais verá. Talvez seu olhar seja atraído primeiramente para a pitoresca queda d'água, chamada Skogarfoss, à direita na foto.
Mas predomina, nesta composição visual islandesa visual, o colorido arco luminoso que vai do centro para a esquerda. Este arco  cromático não é um arco-íris, já que as gotículas de água não são de chuva, e tampouco estão refletindo a luz solar.

Na verdade, a gotículas saíram da cachoeira e foram iluminadas pela Lua quase cheia. No alto, acima de tudo, estão os tênues raios verdes da aurora. A cena, captada durante uma noite no mês passado, mostra também uma bela paisagem estelar longe, no plano de fundo, onde se inclui o Big Dipper (O Grande Arado, grupo de sete estrelas muito brilhantes, visível somente no hemisfério norte), parte da constelação da Ursa Maior.

The longer you look at this image, the more you see. Perhaps your eye is first drawn to the picturesque waterfall called Skogarfoss visible on the image right. Just as prevalent, however, in this Icelandic visual extravaganza, is the colorful arc of light on the left. This chromatic bow is not a rainbow, since the water drops did not originate in rainfall nor are they reflecting light from the Sun.

Rather, the drops have drifted off from the waterfall and are now illuminated by the nearly full Moon. High above are the faint green streaks of aurora. The scene, captured one night last month, also shows a beautiful starscape far in the background, including the Big Dipper (a group of seven bright stars that can only be seen from the northern half of the world), part of the constellation of the Great Bear (Ursa Major).
