A equipe planeja saltar da Torre Menara, em Kuala Lumpur, Malásia, em 28 e 29 de outubro. De 1,381pés de altitude, incluindo a antena esta é a quinta mais alta torre em que se pode ficar de pé, embora o grupo vá saltar apenas do terraço, a 915 pés.

O Major Alastair Macartney, atual campeão Nacional de Skydiving e integrante do Real Corpo de Logística, e o cabo Deane Smith, um engenheiro do Royal Para Commando que acaba de retornar do Afeganistão, comandarão a tentativa.

BASE jumping é o esporte de parquedismo a parti de objetos fixos, e seu nome vem da iniciais dos principais pontos de salto: Building (edifício), Antenna, Span (pontes) (bridges) and Earth (penhascos) (cliffs).

The two soldiers are part of a team of 24, who plan to jump 24 times each in 24 hours. If they are successful, they hope to break the Guinness World Record for endurance base jumping.

The team plans to jump from the Menara Kuala Lumpur Tower in the Malaysian capital on 28 and 29 October.

At 1,381ft high including antenna it is the fifth tallest freestanding tower in the world, although the team will only be jumping from the pod, 915ft in the air.

Major Alastair Macartney, the current National Skydiving Champion and part of the Royal Logistic Corps, and Corporal Deane Smith, a Royal Engineer Para Commando who has recently returned from Afghanistan, will be leading the attempt.

They will be flying the flag of the Royal British Legion as they jump, as part of an early Remembrance Day tribute.Major Macartney said: "It is vitally important for soldiers to feel that they have the Nation backing them.

Carrying out these extreme events and raising money and awareness for charity will increase the public support for our military. This is the least we can do.

"BASE jumping is the sport of parachuting from fixed objects, and gets its name from the initials of the main jumping points: Building, Antenna, Span (bridges) and Earth (cliffs).
