Os anos 1970 são às vezes ignorados pelos astrônomos, como no caso deste belo agrupamento de nebulosas de reflexão em Orion - NGC 1977, NGC 1975 e NGC 1973 - geralmente ignorado em favor do forte brilho da vizinha região de formação estelar mais conhecida como a Nebulosa de Orion. 

Encontrada junto à espada de Orion, logo ao norte do brilhante complexo da Nebulosa de Orion, essas nebulosas de reflexão são também associadas à gigantesca nuvem molecular de Orion, distante  cerca de 1.500 anos-luz, porém são dominadas pela característica cor azul da poeira interestelar, que reflete luz de jovens e quentes estrelas. 

Nesta nítida imagem colorida, uma porção da Nebulosa de Orion aparece junto à divisa inferior, com o aglomerado de nebulosas de reflexão ao centro da foto. NGC 1977 espalha-se pelo campo, logo abaixo do centro, separada de NGC 1973 (acima, à direita)  e NGC 1975 (acima, à esquerda) por regiões escuras enlaceadas por fracas emissões vermelhas de átomos de hidrogênio. Vistas juntas, as regiões escuras sugerem a muita gente a forma de um homem correndo.

The 1970s are sometimes ignored by astronomers, like this beautiful grouping of reflection nebulae in Orion - NGC 1977, NGC 1975, and NGC 1973 - usually overlooked in favor of the substantial glow from the nearby stellar nursery better known as the Orion Nebula. 

Found along Orion's sword just north of the bright Orion Nebula complex, these reflection nebulae are also associated with Orion's giant molecular cloud about 1,500 light-years away, but are dominated by the characteristic blue color of interstellar dust reflecting light from hot young stars. 

In this sharp color image a portion of the Orion Nebula appears along the bottom border with the cluster of reflection nebulae at picture center. NGC 1977 stretches across the field just below center, separated from NGC 1973 (above right) and NGC 1975 (above left) by dark regions laced with faint red emission from hydrogen atoms. Taken together, the dark regions suggest to many the shape of a running man.
