Auroras e pilar de luz vulcânica


Não há pôr-do-sol. E aquela fina linha vermelha logo acima — não é um pilar de Sol. O brilho vermelho no horizonte se  origina de uma erupção vulcânica, e a linha vermelha é o reflexo da erupção de cristais de gelo atmosféricos vagantes

Este incomum pilar de luz vulcânica foi registrado sobre a Islândia no começo deste mês. A cena mostrada está voltada para o norte, de Jökulsárlón, em direção ao vulcão em erupção Bárðarbunga, no campo de lava Holuhraun

Até o céu de primeiro plano é pitoresco, com cores cinzas texturizadas na atmosfera inferior, auroras verdes dançantes na atmosfera superior, e  estrelas brilhantes ao longe. Embora a última erupção do Holuhraun tenha ocorrido em 1797, a atual atividade vulcânica continua.

That's no sunset. And that thin red line just above it -- that's not a sun pillar. The red glow on the horizon originates from a volcanic eruption, and the red line is the eruption's reflection from fluttering atmospheric ice crystals. This unusual volcanic light pillar was captured over Iceland earlier this month. The featured scene looks north from Jökulsárlón toward the erupting volcano Bárðarbunga in the Holuhraun lava field. Even the foreground sky is picturesque, with textured grey clouds in the lower atmosphere, shimmering green aurora in the upper atmosphere, and bright stars far in the distance. Although the last eruption from Holuhraun was in 1797, the present volcanic activity continues.
