LADEE

Em 6 de setembro, em uma noite estrelada com a Via Láctea visível ocorreu o lançamento de um foguete Minotaur V das Instalações de Voo Wallops da NASA, na Ilha Wallops, Virgínia. 

Em boa parte do leste dos Estados Unidos o espetacular lançamento também foi visível, mesmo em áreas urbanas poluídas por iluminação. Esta foto de 35 segundos de exposição captou  parte do rastro inicial do lançamento do foguete e as labaredas da ignição do 2º estágio, com um brilhante reflexo do céu em chamas nas calmas águas. 

A impressionate vista é voltada para o sul e oeste, de uma perspectiva através da Baía Sinepuxent, em Maryland, cerca de 20 milhas ao norte da plataforma de lançamento. 

Rumando para o leste sobre o Atlântico, o foguete de múltiplos estágios colocou o LADEE, Explorador do Ambiente da Atmosfera e Poeira Lunar, em uma órbita altamente elípticapara começar sua jornada até a Lua.

On September 6, a starry night and the Milky Way witnessed the launch of a Minotaur V rocket from NASA's Wallops Flight Facility on Wallops Island, Virginia. 

So did a large part of the eastern United States, as the spectacular night launch was easily visible even from light polluted urban areas. This 35 second exposure captures part of the rocket's initial launch streak and 2nd stage ignition flare along with a brilliant reflection of the fiery sky in calm waters. 

The stunning view faces south and west from a vantage point overlooking Sinepuxent Bay in Maryland about 20 miles north of the launch pad. 

Heading east over the Atlantic, the multi-stage rocket placed LADEE, the Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer, into a highly elliptical Earth orbit to begin its journey to the Moon.
