Estilhaços se espalharam pelo local, e as autoridades disseram aos espectadores que permanecessem onde estavam, para que as equipes de emergência pudessem chegar ao local.
Pelo menos 15 pessoas estavam em estado crítico após a queda, o que um porta-voz do evento chamou de uma "situação de infortúnio em massa", numa declaração por escrito. A FAA- Federal Aviation Administration interditou a corrida aérea após o acidente, e está, com a Agência Nacional de Segurança dos Transportes, investigando os fatos.

Debris billowed near the crash site, and officials then told spectators to remain where they were so emergency workers could get to the scene.
At least 15 people were in a critical condition after the crash, which a spokesman for the event called a "mass casualty situation" in a written statement.
The Federal Aviation Administration halted the air race after the crash, and was investigating the incident alongside the National Transportation Safety Board, an FAA official said.
