Panoramic images of Sun / Imagens panorâmicas do Sol

 

Duas sondas da missão Stereo da Nasa projetaram de volta as primeiras imagens panorâmicas de 360 graus do Sol.

Dois satélites orbitando o Sol perfeitamente alinhados em lados opostos pela primeira vez obtendo imagens que quando combinadas criam a mais completa foto de sua superfície.

Cientistas,  incluindo os do Laboratório Britânico Rutherford Appleton  em Oxfordshire, acreditam que a foto é tão significativa quanto aquelas do primeiro homem a pisar na Lua e as primeiras imagens  da Terra vista do espaço.

Poderia também ser um paso importante para a "Previsão do tempo espacial" já que os satélites podem monitorar os ventos solares soprados pelo Sol, vindo em direção à Terra.

A missão do Observatório de Relações Solares e Terrestres (STEREO), liderada pela Nasa, lançou dois satélites em 2006, que orbitam o Sol desde então.

Two probes from Nasa's Stereo mission have beamed back the first ever 360-degree panoramic images of the Sun.

Two satellites orbiting the Sun perfectly aligned on opposite sides for the first time taking images that when combined create the most complete picture ever of its surface.

Scientists, who include those at Britain's Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire, believe the photo is as significant as those taken of the first men on the Moon and the first ever images of the Earth from outer space.

It could also mark a significant step forward in "Space weather forecasting" as the satellites can monitor solar winds blasted from the Sun and heading towards Earth.

The Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory (STEREO) mission, led by Nasa, launched its two satellites in 2006 and they have been orbiting the Sun ever since.
