Uma busca por esses sinais é feita por vários grupos, inclusive membros voluntários members da Liga SETI. O tempo marca o eixo vertical do mapa acima, e a frequência, o eixo horizontal.
Embora este forte sinal posa nunca ter sido identificado, astrônomos o identificaram em vários atributos característicos de uma origem mais mundana e fundamentalmente terrestre.
Nesse caso, uma possibilidade principal é de o sinal se originar de uma modulação incomum entre um satélite de GPS e uma fonte não identificada baseada na Terra.
