Muito antes de Stonehenge ser erguida, bem antes de os manuscritos do Mar Morto terem sido escritos, antigos artistas pintaram figuras em tamanho real nas paredes dos cânions, em Utah, EUA, mas quem? Ninguém sabe ao certo. Todo o painel de figuras, que data de cerca de 7.000 anos, é chamado a Grande Galeria e foi descoberto nas paredes do Cânion da Ferradura, no Parque Nacional Canyonlands.
Os humanos que os pintaram provavelmente caçavam mamutes. A incomum forma vaga da maior figura levou essa seção do mural a ser chamada de O Painel do Espírito Santo, embora a atribuição pretendida e importância social da figura sejam realmente desconhecidos.
A imagem foi feita durante uma noite clara de março. Todavia, os objetos mais antigos da foto não são as pictografias, mas as estrelas da nossa Via Láctea distantes no plano de fundo, algumas das quais têm bilhões de anos.
Long before Stonehenge was built, well before the Dead Sea Scrolls were written, ancient artists painted life-sized figures on canyon walls in Utah, USA - but why?
Nobody is sure. The entire panel of figures, which dates back about 7,000 years, is called the Great Gallery and was found on the walls of Horseshoe Canyon in Canyonlands National Park. The humans who painted them likely hunted Mammoths.
The unusual fuzziness of largest figure led to this mural section's informal designation as the Holy Ghost Panel, although the intended attribution and societal importance of the figure are really unknown. The above image was taken during a clear night in March.
The oldest objects in the above image are not the pictographs, however, but the stars of our Milky Way Galaxy far in the background, some of which are billions of years old.
