Um grupo de agricultores cria "murais" plantando arroz em diferentes cores, em arrozais no Japão.

Os agricultores primeiro traçam os desenhos no computador, de modo que possam saber exatamente onde o arroz deve ser plantado para formar a imagem.

Centenas de aldeães e outros voluntários então ajudam a plantar as quatro variedades de arroz colorido nos vastos campos. O trabalho mais famoso foi plantado na aldeia de Inakadate, 965 quilômetros ao norte de Tóquio, onde a tradição começou, em 1993.

Cada ano um desenho diferente é mostrado, e mais de 15.000 visitantes viajam para ver a criação. Os agricultores criam os murais plantando arroz Kodamai púrpura e amarelo juntamente à variedade local romana Tsugaru, de folhas verdes.

O arroz é plantado em maio e os desenhos chegam ao ponto ideal em setembro. Entre as imagens que já enfeitaram a aldeia incluem-se a de um guerreiro japonês Sengoku a cavalo, um sapo gigante e uma borboleta.

É interessante como, no mundo argentário de hoje, pessoas se unem em torno de um ideal, criando obras belas e fugazes, com uma precisão fantástica.

A group of farmers have created 'murals' by planting rice in different colours in Japanese paddy fields.

The farmers first sketch out their designs on computers so that they know exactly where the rice needs to be planted. Hundreds of villagers and other volunteers then help plant the four different coloured varieties of rice in the vast fields.

The most famous work is grown in the village of Inakadate, 600 miles north of Toyko, where the tradition began in 1993. Each year a different design is on show and more than 15,000 visitors travel to see the creation.

The farmers create the murals by planting purple and yellow-leafed kodaimai rice along with their local green-leafed tsugaru roman variety.

The rice is planted in May and the creations are at their best in September. Images that have adorned the village fields include a Japanese Sengoku warrior on horseback, a giant frog and a butterfly.

It's surprising that in today's money-driven world, people gather around an ideal, creating incredibly beautiful, and fugacious masterworks, with fantastic precision.
