Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner, austríaca, está empenhada em tornar-se a segunda mulher a escalar 13 dos 14 picos acima de 8.000 metros.

Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner of Austria is on a quest to become the second woman to climb 13 of the world's 14 peaks above 8,000 meters.

This photograph shows her climbing Himalayan peak K2, near the border between Pakistan and China.

It towers to 8,611 meters and is the second-highest mountain on Earth after Mt. Everest.

If Kaltenbrunner reaches the peak, she would join South Korean climber Oh Eun Sun in the record books.
