Seu braço direito ficou tão danificado que os médicos não puderam usá-lo, então puseram sua mão direita no antebraço esquerdo.
Em seguida, removeram-lhe o polegar e o reposicionaram no outro lado de sua mão, de modo que seu antigo dedo indicador é agora seu dedo mínimo.
A operação, de oito horas, realizada no Hospital Doze de Outubro, em Madri, Espanha, é a quinta cirurgia de transplante de mão invertida até hoje realizada.
