Heavens sent / Caído do céu

Um incrédulo estudante saúda sua estrela da sorte ao sobreviver ao impacto direto de um meteorito que atingiu a Terra a mais de 30.000 milhas por hora.

Gerrit Blank, 14, ia apressado para a escola quando viu uma bola de fogo enorme vindo direto do céu em sua direção.

" No começo, eu só vi uma grande bola de luz, e então eu subitamente senti uma dor em minha mão.

Uma fração de segundo depois houve um barulho enorme, como o de uma batida de carros ou um trovão," disse Gerrit.

O meteorito branco e quente atingiu o solo tão forte que deixou uma cratera de um pé (0,33m) no pavimento e uma cicatriz de três polegadas na mão de Gerrit, onde bateu e caiu.

Cientistas estão agora estudando o meteorito do tamanho de uma ervilha que atingiu a Terra, em Essen, Alemanha. Testes químicos na rocha comprovaram que ela veio do espaço exterior.

A stunned schoolboy is thanking his lucky stars after surviving a direct hit by a meteorite as it hurtled to Earth at more than 30,000 mph.

Gerrit Blank, 14, was rushing to school when he saw a massive fireball heading straight towards him from the sky. "At first I just saw a large ball of light, and then I suddenly felt a pain in my hand. A split second after that there was an enormous bang like a crash of thunder," said Gerrit.

The white-hot meteorite hit the ground so hard it left a foot wide crater in the tarmac and a three-inch long scar on Gerrit's hand where it bounced off him.

Scientists are now studying the pea-sized meteorite which crashed to Earth in Essen, Germany. Chemical tests on the rock have proved it came from outer space .
