Ao menos 14 pessoas foram mortas por um atirador que se entrincheirou na American Civic Association, em Binghamton, Nova York.Havia dezenas de reféns, e pelo menos 4 feridos graves, além dos 14 mortos.

O homem bloqueou a entrada trazeira da associação com seu carro, antes de entrar pela porta principal, e passou a disparar um rifle. Acabou, como é comum nesses casos, se matando.

Policiais identificaram o atirador como Jiverly Wong, que usava também o nome de Jiverly Voong.

Various television networks were reporting that as many as a dozen people were killed in the rampage, and that dozens of others were being held hostage.

A gunman entered the American Civic Association in Binghamton this morning and that there are fatalities.

The gunman barricaded the rear door of the association building with his car before entering through the front door, firing his weapon.

The web site of the local newspaper, The Binghamton Press & Sun Bulletin, quoted the police there as saying that about 40 hostages were in the building. Shortly after noon, about 10 people were released from the building, the reports said, and about 40 minutes later another 10 were released.

Law enofrcemente agents have identified the shooter as Jiverly Wong, who used the alias Jiverly Voong.
