Após a gestação de um ano, nasce o golfinho, da espécie Nariz-de-garrafa (Tursiops truncatus). Primeiro, sai a cauda, de modo que o filhote não respire na água, e já consegue ver e nadar. Ele mama imediatamente o colostro, que lhe permite desenvolver o sistema imunológico. O filhote será criado por quatro meses, e depois, aos quatro meses, poderá comer peixes. O nariz-de-garrafa é, possivelmente, a mais comum das 45 espécies de golfinho, e na natureza, deverá viver uns 20 anos, embora se saiba que pode chegar aos 48 anos.
This Bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) gave birth after almost one year's time pregnancy.
The calf emerged tail first - so it does not breathe in water - and was able to see and swim immediately.
The calf began feeding very quickly taking in the vital colostrum which allows it to build up its immune system.
It will be nursed for about 18 months and will begin eating fish at about four months.The bottlenose is probably the most common of the 45 different types of dolphins and in the wild will live for an average 20 years though they have been known to live as long as 48 years.
