Pode parecer, a principio, que a galaxia está produzindo o relampago, mas, na verdade, trata-se da Terra. Esta paisagem noturna foi fotografada em uma extremidade sul da ilha Italiana da Sardenha, no começo de junho.
As rochas e arbustos em primeiro plano estão proximos ao famoso Farol Capo Spartivento, e a camera está apontada para o sul, na direção da Algeria, na Africa. Ao longe, do outro lado do Mar Mediterraneo, uma ameaçadora tempestade elétrica, ou de trovões, com inúmeros relâmpagos registrados juntos durante esta exposição grande angular de 25 segundos de duração.
Muito mais distantes, espalhados pelo céu, centenas de estrelas nas vizinhanças do Sol na Via Lactea. Ainda mais distantes, e inclinando-se para baixo a partir do canto superior esquerdo, bilhões de estrelas que, juntas, compõem a faixa central da Via Láctea.

It may appear, at first, like the Galaxy is producing the lightning, but really it's the Earth. The featured nighttime landscape was taken from a southern tip of the Italiand of Sardinia in early June.
The foreground rocks and shrubs are near the famous Capo Spartivento Lighthouse, and the camera is pointed south toward Algeria in Africa. In the distance, across the Mediterranean Sea, a thunderstorm is threatening, with several electric lightning strokes caught together during this 25-second wide-angle exposure.
Much farther in the distance, strewn about the sky, are hundreds of stars in the neighborhood of our Sun in the Milky Way Galaxy. Furthest away, and slanting down from the upper left, are billions of stars that together compose the central band of our Milky Way.
