Saturno, Titã, Anéis e Bruma

Isto não é uma eclipse solar. A foto acima contém uma rica imagem de luas e anéis tirada em Saturno. O grande objeto circular no centro da imagem é Titã, a maior lua de Saturno e um dos mais intrigantes objetos de todo o Sistema Sola. 

A mancha negra ao centro é principal parte sólida da lua. O brilhante anel ao redor é bruma atmosférica sobre Titã, gás que espalha a luz solar para uma câmera que opera a bordo da espaçonave robótica Cassini. 


Atravessando horizontalmente a imagem aparecem os anéis de Saturno, vistos quase de perfil, com a borda totalmente voltada para a câmera. 

à direita, abaixo de Titã, está Encelado, uma pequena lua de Saturno. Como a imagem foi obtida com a câmera apontando para as proximidades do Sol, as superfícies de Titã e Encelado aparecem em silhueta, e os anéis de Saturno se assemelham a um negativo fotográfico. 

Now if you look really really closely at Enceladus, you can see a hint of icy jets shooting out toward the bottom of the image. It is these jets that inspired future proposals to land on Enceladus, burrow into the ice, and search for signs of extraterrestrial life.


This is not a solar eclipse. Pictured above is a busy vista of moons and rings taken at Saturn. The large circular object in the center of the image is Titan, the largest moon of Saturn and one of the most intriguing objects in the entire Solar System. 

The dark spot in the center is the main solid part of the moon. The bright surrounding ring is atmospheric haze above Titan, gas that is scattering sunlight to a camera operating onboard the robotic Cassini spacecraft. 

Cutting horizontally across the image are the rings of Saturn, seen nearly edge on. 

At the lower right of Titan is Enceladus, a small moon of Saturn. Since the image was taken pointing nearly at the Sun, the surfaces of Titan and Enceladus appear in silhouette, and the rings of Saturn appear similar to a photographic negative. 

mas se você olhar Encelado realmente com atenção, irá ver um leve sinal de jatos de gelo sendo expelidos próximos ao fundo da imagem. São esses jatos que inspiraram  futuras propostas de pousar em Encelado, escavar o gelo e procurar sinais de vida extraterrestre.
